Honey for Wound Care & Seasonal Allergies – Those Bees Know What You Need!

Hey, Bloomers! Went to a great lecture last night about the healing powers of honey for wound care sponsored by the Colorado Beekeepers Association (http://coloradobeekeepers.org/). The lecturer, Dr. Allen Dennison, M.D., Assistant Professor of Medicine at Brown University, stated that hospitals are beginning to “rediscover” the healing power of honey for wound care. Traditionally, honey has been spread on wounds to protect and heal. Consider taking a tiny jar of honey on a hike in case of minor cuts and scrapes. Clean wound thoroughly as soon as possible then reapply honey and place sterile gauze over the wound. Here’s a link for more information on honey from Dr. Dennison: http://www.ribeekeeper.org/newsletters/ribanl1203_march.pdf.

And don’t forget to eat local honey (from as close to home as you can locate) to help combat seasonal allergies. Also look for healthful honey and beeswax in our products on-line at www.indigobloomsbotanicals.com for beautiful skin care. We even have honey in our products from our very own Indigo Bees at our hives in Lakewood.

Here’s that CYA statement: Indigo Blooms Botanicals is not offering medical advice. Use your best judgment and research. And, for your viewing pleasure, see the girls in action (yes, the worker bees are the ladies!):

Here’s to your health!
